NASHVILLE, Tennessee., November 8, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The country’s first nonprofit software bootcamp, Nashville School of Software (NSS), today announces the launch of a new software engineering program in collaboration with Amazon to expand opportunities and access to technology careers in Nashville and beyond. The Java / AWS Honors Online Software Engineering Program is available to highly motivated adults across the United States who wish to acquire the skills to create complex, high-performance software applications, and qualify for software engineering jobs. entry-level to technology companies and enterprise IT organizations.

The US Department of Labor predicts 22% growth for software engineers through 2029 and this rate is even higher, and is expected to continue to increase, in Nashville. One of the main drivers of this growth is the creation and deployment (or redeployment and modernization) of applications on public cloud platforms like Amazon’s AWS. According to a recent Deloitte survey, 68% of CIOs ranked public cloud migration and / or private cloud expansion as the top driver of IT spend in 2020.

“We were delighted when Amazon asked us to work with them on using Amazon’s proven in-house Technical Academy program as the basis for our software engineering program. Nashville, “said John wark, Founder and CEO, Nashville Software School. “Our new program opens a new path for local residents and those outside our region to acquire the skills necessary to launch a rewarding and lucrative career in software development. In keeping with our mission and our other programs, this program is aimed at motivated adults with aptitudes “regardless of whether they have already completed technical training, including those who are underemployed, financially fragile or economically disadvantaged, as well as those from backgrounds under-represented in careers. technology, including blacks, Hispanics, women and veterans. ”

The NSS program is based on the Amazon Technical Academy Curriculum, one of Amazon’s unique skills training programs developed by Amazon engineers to help non-technical Amazon employees with no coding experience. prior to entering entry-level software engineer roles. Amazon Technical Academy has placed 98% of its internal graduates in software development engineer roles at Amazon. The program is part of Amazon $ 1.2 billion Upskilling 2025 is committed to helping more than 300,000 of its own employees move up to higher paying and more in-demand positions at Amazon and beyond by 2025.

“At Amazon, we strive to remove barriers such as time and money for our employees so that they can pursue job training and education opportunities essential for the jobs of the future. to the nonprofit mission of the Nashville Software School and focuses on affordability and reducing financial expenses. barriers, ”said Sarah Castle, Director, Amazon Technical Academy. “We are excited to be working with Nashville Software School because of their proven track record in increasing the diversity of Nashville technology community and their good employment performance. We hope that the Amazon Technical Academy curriculum will help more potential students advance their careers and pursue in-demand software engineering roles. “

Prepare students for success

NSS adapts the original Amazon Technical Academy curriculum in several ways for this new curriculum. Commonly used industrial development tools and technologies are integrated into the curriculum, and the teaching approach will also incorporate techniques used in other NSS programs, such as the widespread use of hands-on, hands-on group projects.

The Java / AWS Honors Software Engineering combines hands-on training in on-the-job software engineering practices and tools, with a comprehensive introduction to applied computing concepts and training in cloud computing concepts and technologies. Students apply skills learned in the classroom through hands-on coding exercises and building and deploying server-side applications. Students will also work with the NSS Career Development team so that they are prepared for success in the job search after graduation. Software Engineering is a nine-month full-time program delivered in a synchronous online classroom. Classes are from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. HC.

Graduates of the program will earn an NSS Software Engineering Certificate with specializations in Java and AWS and will be able to apply for junior software engineer positions with the most selective employers. For example, NSS graduates who apply to Amazon for entry-level full-time software development engineer positions will undergo the same recruitment and assessment process as graduates of four-year computer science bachelor’s programs.

Students will have access to several tuition options including payment plans, student loans, and scholarships. The NSS Opportunity Tuition Plan, a risk-shared deferred tuition fee plan and scholarship, will also be available to qualified applicants in this program.

NSS is also deploying a number of means to help interested adults with no programming experience determine whether they wish to pursue this career path and acquire the coding skills required to enter software engineering. These preparatory options combine self-study, mentoring, and instructor-led paths to learn introductory programming concepts and the Java programming language.

The first cohort will be launched in June 2022. Students can apply at nashvillesoftwareschool.com/programs/software-engineering.
