Maxar Acquires AI and Software Engineering Company Wovenware to Build Machine Learning and 3D Data Generation Capabilities

WESTMINSTER, Colorado–()–Maxar Technologies (NYSE:MAXR) (TSX:MAXR), a provider of complete spatial solutions and secure and accurate geospatial intelligence, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of an AI development company and software Dishes. This acquisition adds significantly to Maxar’s capabilities and talent in software engineering and AI.

Founded in Puerto Rico in 2003, Wovenware has approximately 150 employees specializing in software development, service design, artificial intelligence and geospatial production. The company will become one of Maxar’s centers of excellence in software development and AI/machine learning (ML), with its software delivery experts working closely with other Maxar teams to develop new solutions for customers.

Since 2017, Wovenware has worked closely with Maxar on numerous customer delivery and internal software engineering initiatives, including Maxar’s global imagery basemaps, Precision3D applications and more.

Specifically, Wovenware’s AI/ML and data generation talents have supported Maxar projects from user interface design to full delivery, producing new 3D terrain analysis tools, thousands of ML training datasets and dozens of automated object detection models. Wovenware co-founders Christian González and Carlos Meléndez will continue to oversee the company’s day-to-day operations.
