WAGE SCALE : €39,044 – €56,766 per year prorated

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of the position

Immersive Software Engineering (ISE) is a revolutionary new program with a roster of over 40 companies where students can advance their learning in specialized internships we call residencies. The number of companies in the ISE network is growing rapidly. An experienced industry coordinator is needed to support the development of individualized residency experiences for ISE students and companies. A primary responsibility will be to create, maintain and deepen relationships between ISE academics and industry, to ensure that all parties are delighted. The incumbent will be instrumental in developing work practices and systems that enable lasting engagement between ISE and our industry partners for the benefit of ISE students.

Main responsibilities Design ISE residences in consultation with the ISE management team, in particular the ISE residence manager and ISE industry partners.

Research and develop best practices in workplace learning program models.

Research and develop best practices in mentoring program models.

Continually develop an industry-approved workplace skills and competencies map.

Provide support to the Residences Manager in employer-specific projects, including work-based learning, mentoring, internships and residencies.

The context

3a. Working relationships and key contacts

Reporting to ISE co-directors. The position will have a range of contacts and points of collaboration. This includes other staff within ISE, CSIS faculty and staff at the wider university, and staff from many companies in the ISE network.

3b. Work environment/special circumstances

Mainly normal working hours in the office. Work outside normal working hours (noon and after 5:15 p.m., weekends) is occasionally (but not regularly) required. Normal office work environment and remote work if required

3c. Employment limits

This position is designed to help create a whole new work and study relationship with companies. The position requires close attention to ISE objectives, as well as good planning and organizational skills. We are a small team that works collaboratively and intensely with each other. Well-established problem-solving skills are required in addition to being a good communicator with colleagues and with network companies. The position requires an understanding of teamwork, idea sharing and a willingness to identify new development opportunities.

Knowledge, functional skills, experience and qualifications

Essential knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sectors relevant to software engineering as well as knowledge and experience of the educational landscape in Ireland, particularly at second and third level.

Desirable knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing mentorship/internship/clerkship programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the application of technologies to support blended and distance learning programs.
  • A demonstrable commitment to excellence and innovation in computer science education.

Essential Job Skills

  • MS Office/MS Teams/experience.
  • Ability to communicate with external stakeholders.
  • Reporting skills: reporting and its coordination/management.

Essential Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrable industry or other organization experience in internships (internship mentoring or internship support), or in a comparable and related role.
  • Experience in project management and execution.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching interns and/or recent graduates, providing personal, professional and technical support.

Desirable experience

  • Experience in developing initiatives to facilitate meaningful conversations between students and mentors that support industry/workplace learning goals.
  • Experience planning pre-internship engagements and engaging on-site or remote visits for students that provide insight into the workplace and projects that ISE students are working on and aligning with about what students learn through ISE.
  • Experience creating and managing onboarding procedures and processes to help interns/students join an industry team.
  • Experience in managing a technology internship program in interfacing industry with higher education institutions, designing programs, interfacing with technical leads, mentors, ensuring that a real and useful work is offered.

Essential qualifications

  • A level 8 degree in computer science or software engineering or a related discipline.
