AAC Clyde Space computer system order for the lunar mission

AAC Clyde Space has been selected by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center of the United Arab Emirates (MBRSC) to provide a EUR 0.2 million (approximately MSEK 2) computer system for the Rashid lunar rover. This is the fourth lunar mission in which AAC Clyde Space will participate.

The lunar mission announced by MBRSC in September 2020, will place a small rover on the moon carrying several scientific instruments. The rover weighs only around 10 kilograms, placing high demands on both components and payloads in order to maximize the potential scientific outcome of the mission. The Lunar Rover Project “Rashid” is a key part of the UAE’s space exploration strategy, which centers on creating new knowledge capacities, inspiring future generations to pursue space science and research, and fostering the global collaboration.

The lunar rover’s computer system will be used to control, manage and process the images and videos generated by the four cameras on board the Rashid Rover. AAC Clyde Space will supply development units based on its Sirius pendant avionics line and engineering models in the second quarter and flight models in the fourth quarter.

The mission is seen by the MBRSC as an ideal opportunity to test new technology and equipment for future space exploration, including Mars.
